Meet the Staff at Kids First Pediatrics


Doctor Samarel

Dr. Samarel graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1988, and completed a three year residency in Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a one year pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. He worked the following 8 years as a pediatric hospitalist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA, the latter 4 of these he served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. After practicing primary care pediatrics in Weston, MA and Fort Mill, SC, Dr. Samarel was eager to practice pediatrics in the community in which he resides and established Kids First Pediatrics in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte in 2002. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three grown boys and daughter-in law, along with mountain biking, tasting microbrews and going to concerts.


Doctor Levine

Dr. Levine graduated from Princeton University in 1994 before attending Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Levine completed her pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida in 2001. She was then in private practice in Miami for a year before traveling to New Zealand for additional training.  Dr. Levine enjoys gardening, baking, hiking  and spending time with her husband, and two daughters.


Doctor Wheeler

Dr. Wheeler relocated to Charlotte from the Rockville, Maryland area where she has been in private practice for 9 years. Previously, Dr. Wheeler worked in pediatric ER medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Wheeler graduated from Duke University and attained her medical degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she completed a UNC Distinguished Scholars Research Fellowship. She did her residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Wheeler is a Board certified pediatrician. When she is not working she enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her husband and two daughters.


Doctor Lassiter

Dr. Lassiter attended Auburn University and graduated from the University of Alabama Medical School. She completed her residency and Chief Residency in pediatrics at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. Dr. Lassiter previously worked as a Clinical Instructor for The Department of Pediatrics at The University of Maryland College of Medicine and as a Pediatric Hospitalist at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She has worked in private practice since 2003.  Dr. Lassiter keeps busy with her husband and three children. She enjoys outdoor activities, sports and reading.


Doctor Modi

Dr. Modi graduated from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed her residency from Advocate Christ Medical Center Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Dr. Modi has worked since 2006 in primary care doctor in Rock Hill, SC. Previously, she was a hospitalist at University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital and Levine's Children's Hospital in Charlotte. Dr. Modi enjoys volunteering, travel and spending time with her husband and three children when she is not working.
